Dictator Trump, a Christian’s Deepest Desire
“Never in my life did I think I would like to see a dictator,” the woman told the crowd. “But if there’s going to be one, I want it to be Trump.”
The following quote comes from a Trump supporter speaking at a Steve Bannon event which appeared on the latest episode of Showtime’s “The Circus” — see video coverage from The Damage Report for me. As a polytheist, I see this woman’s desire as a symptom caused by monotheism’s degradation of the soul. Dramatic as this may sounds to the ears of any monotheists reading this hear me out, since you may not realize the danger hiding in plain sight.
Examining the religious affiliation of the 2016 election Trump’s base is mainly Christian with White, born-again/evangelical Christians supporting Trump at 81%. While I do not know the religious affiliation of the woman who made the statement, I wager she is a Christian.
Christianity, like all monotheistic faiths, at its basic level is antithetical to true human flourishing and freedom. The most devoted Christians are the most dangerous when it comes to the future of the United States as they will easily embrace dictatorship because Christianity is reductive and dictatorship is a reductive form of government.
Christianity is reductive in its cosmology; everything is explained by one thing, their god. In their soteriology, Jesus is the one way to achieve salvation. Evil has one source, their Devil. I could go on, but you get the idea. Apply this mentality of reductionism coupled with the teaching of the second coming of the Messiah will give you the making of an American dictatorship. Christianity teaches that salvation cannot be achieved on your own, there is an outside source you must believe in that will save you. Ingrain this for centuries into the minds of people and naturally they will go look for a political leader to save them. To be fair, both the left and right do this, but one side desires dictatorship because they believe dictatorship will not have any negative impact on them.

White Christians have for a long time held a privileged position in this country, and this position is ‘under threat’ by equality with minorities; equality is oppression to them. Dictatorship looks appealing to them because it would guarantee their continued privileged position in society. What harm would a dictator bring them? The ‘good’ American, the ‘good’ Christian, the ‘good’ whatever they see themselves as. They are at no risk, they think they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
They think they have everything to gain because Jesus is supposed to bring the Kingdom of God with him when he returns. Many Christians in America believe their god loves the United States more than any other country and that the United States is a “Christian country.” Add all this with poor education, lack of critical thinking, good rhetoric, and, fear and you have a recipe for disaster. You have the making of a dictator coming in the guise of ‘savior’ from god to save “his nation” and the Christians will eagerly accept. The Kingdom of God can be the United States for them and Donald Trump their messiah.
